We’re excited to share a big planning win where we secured planning approval for a children focused indoor recreation facility at Ricketts Road, Mount Waverley, within the City of Monash.
Located in Special Use Zone Schedule 6 (SUZ6), this was a challenging approval where land use compatibility, operational detail and employment precinct outcomes were front and centre from day one.
💥 Why This One Matters
Indoor recreation uses within SUZ6 are not straightforward. Council needed confidence that the proposal aligned with the purpose of the zone and would operate in a controlled, low impact and compatible manner alongside surrounding employment uses. Through a clear planning strategy, strong land use justification, surrounding precedent and detailed operational controls, we were able to respond to Council concerns and secure approval.
💡 What We Delivered
🔹 Approval for use of land as a children focused indoor recreation facility
🔹 Town planning drawings prepared in house
🔹 A comprehensive town planning report and SUZ6 justification
🔹 A targeted response to zoning compatibility and operational concerns
🔹 End to end management of the planning permit process, from lodgment to decision
🚗 A Parking Strategy That Did the Heavy Lifting
Car parking was a key pressure point. We secured formal shared parking agreements across the business park, lifting total provision to 19 car spaces, tied to a structured session based operating model. Built in 15-minute buffers between classes manage arrivals and departures, reduce overlap and gave Council confidence that parking demand is controlled.
👏 Collaboration That Counts
A massive shout out to RedSquare Traffic for their excellent work on the Traffic Impact Assessment and Waste Management Plan. Their input was instrumental to achieving this outcome.

At Canter Town Planning, we thrive in complex planning environments, developing clear, defensible strategies and managing applications end to end. Our focus is simple: turning ambitious ideas into approved outcomes.
If your project is sitting in a difficult zone or facing land use resistance, let’s talk.
