Planning approvals don’t always follow a straightforward pathway.
At times, they benefit from strategic advocacy, persistence and a clear presentation of the planning merits to support a positive outcome.
Canter Town Planning is proud to have secured planning approval for the new Risky Kids indoor recreation facility at Redland Drive, Mitcham within the Whitehorse City Council municipality.
This project is a strong example of how a considered and strategic approach can help guide an application toward a successful outcome.
💥 Why This One Matters
Council’s planning officers initially recommended that the application be refused, primarily due to the proposed use being located within an industrial area.
However, the broader context includes a number of established non-industrial uses, such as education centres and other compatible activities, which informed a more balanced planning perspective.
Rather than proceeding to VCAT and introducing additional time and cost for our client, we pursued a more strategic pathway.
Working closely with the client, we engaged directly with councillors, clearly outlined the planning merits of the proposal, and successfully had the application considered at a Council meeting.
The result was a strong level of support from councillors, leading to the approval of the application.
🏃 A Fantastic Community Outcome
The approved development will deliver a new Risky Kids indoor recreation facility, providing children with a safe, engaging environment focused on movement, confidence building, fitness and fun.
The proposal also represents the adaptive re-use of an existing industrial tenancy, introducing a vibrant community-focused use that remains compatible with the surrounding precinct.
